ADHD and Palmistry: A Personal Journey of Discovery

I've been reading palms for around seven years, delving into the unique stories that our hands hold. However, it wasn’t until I was diagnosed with inattentive ADHD at the end of 2023 that I began to explore how ADHD manifests in the palm. This discovery has been both personal and profound, leading to insights that might one day simplify testing and empower others to understand themselves better. (I’d been previously diagnosed with depression, PTSD & anxiety, & have a history of stage flight. I have Fibro, underactive thyroid, IBS, & very low energy)
The ADHD Palm Tell
From my observations, the hallmark of inattentive ADHD often presents as a longer index finger paired with a shorter pinky finger. This combination speaks volumes about the overthinking, empathy, and inner struggles many with this condition experience.
Long Index Finger: Indicates a natural tendency toward leadership, care for others, and a deep sense of responsibility—even to a fault. These individuals often take on others' problems while struggling to prioritise their own needs.
Linked to higher exposure to oestrogen in the womb, which influences the growth of the index finger and is associated with empathy and nurturing traits.
Long Ring Finger: Often results from higher exposure to testosterone in the womb, which promotes traits like competitiveness and confidence. Those with a long ring finger may find it harder to relate to the internalised overthinking and self-criticism experienced by those with a longer index finger.
Short Pinky Finger: Reflects being “in your head,” lower energy levels, and the potential for conditions like fibromyalgia, IBS, or chronic fatigue. The shorter the pinky, the more pronounced these tendencies seem to be.
Scientifically, finger length ratios are influenced by hormonal exposure during fetal development. A shorter pinky may indicate imbalances in hormonal signalling or slower growth rates in the associated bone structures. These subtle differences could be linked to neurotransmitter regulation, which affects energy and mental processing.
When ADHD Traits Don’t Match the Hands
Interestingly, this palm signature doesn’t always appear if other conditions are present:
Autism: If someone has autism alongside ADHD, the palm may not exhibit this specific combination. (Further research is underway)
OCD: A short pinky combined with OCD typically means the OCD developed later in life, often as a trauma response. Notably, OCD tends to be paired with high energy levels, which might explain the drive to keep things meticulously organised. (The tell would be having OCD with low energy)
Understanding the Science and Beyond
Scientific research is uncovering connections between inattentive ADHD and several co-occurring conditions, including:
Fibromyalgia: Studies indicate a notable overlap between ADHD and fibromyalgia, with shared cognitive symptoms such as attention deficits and memory issues.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS): Emerging research suggests a higher prevalence of IBS among individuals with ADHD, possibly due to shared neurological pathways or the impact of chronic stress.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS): Both ADHD and CFS involve significant fatigue and concentration difficulties, indicating potential overlapping mechanisms.

Empowering Others Through Research
I plan to conduct substantial research into these patterns in the hope of making ADHD testing more accessible and affordable. While formal diagnosis is crucial, understanding your palm might give you the nudge to seek professional confirmation. Checking your friends’ fingers and recognising similarities can open up joyful conversations about what’s going on in your head.
We’ve been called lazy and stupid too many times. It’s time to empower women to know that they’re not only smart but also deeply empathetic and capable. Diagnoses can heal the hurt caused by these misconceptions and pave the way for self-acceptance.
Metaphysical Theories and ADHD
There are fascinating metaphysical theories about ADHD:
Dimensional Connections: Some believe that people with ADHD are connected to multiple dimensions, which explains the forgetfulness and feeling “out of sync” with the world.
Dolores Cannon’s Teachings: Cannon’s work suggests that we are the “chosen ones” and that our exhaustion comes from learning and unlearning in dream states to prepare for a new world.
A Personal Reflection
Every person I’ve met with this finger combination lives up to the tells in their palm. They’re among the most empathetic people I know. Yes, we overthink, overexplain, and often experience stage fright, but we’re also deeply intuitive, kind, and amazingly calm in a crisis.
A Call for Understanding
Imagine if parents and teachers had known this information. Our schooling could have been adjusted to our needs, and we might have avoided the harmful labels and misunderstandings. Diagnosis isn’t just a label; it’s a way to heal from years of feeling “not enough” and to embrace the unique strengths we bring to the world.
